It is inevitable that at some point in time your pearl necklace will break. The silk string becomes weakened by abrasion from bead holes and exposure to body oils, perfumes and cosmetics, as well as general wear-and-tear. In order to avoid the strands breaking at an inconvenient time, it is recommended to have your pearls restrung occasionally. If the necklace is threaded with knots, it will be slightly shorter after re-threading.
Irrespective of whether the string is silk, nylon or another material, all strings will gradually stretch over time. After re-threading we advise storing your pearl necklace lying flat rather than hanging. This helps to reduce stretching and stress on the cord.
For your security and peace of mind, when you leave your necklace with us we will count and record the number of pearls on the repair paperwork.
